The Arsenal House
514 West Dominick St., Rome, NY 13440
Built during the War of 1812, this strategically located building served as the residence of 11 distinguished commanding officers of the United States Arsenal from 1815 to 1873. The house features original woodwork including: panel doors and hardware, decorative plaster cornices and ceiling medallions, and seven of the ten fireplace mantels that date back to its construction in 1812.
Today, the Arsenal House is one of the last remaining examples of Federal Style architecture in Oneida County and is listed on .
This property has lived many lives over the past two hundred years. Most recently, the Arsenal House underwent a major restoration under the guidance of Joel and Holly Amidon, long time supporters of the arts in Rome. It is their hope that the property will be preserved as a community asset supporting art, culture and history. They have generously offered to host one or more concerts in the Crosswinds Concert Series. |
